Hi Friends!!

Just completed week 4 in the MTC and it feels like it's flying!! I know I haven't updated you guys since week one... haha so sorry! This will just be a quick update!

I taught my first lesson in gwóng dūng wá (cantonese)!!! It was so fun okay and the girl I taught was so nice! I made sure to learn "can you speak a little bit slower" before the lesson, which came in handy throughout the lesson because these people speak FAST hahaha I taught about Sàhn, Yèhsōu Gēidūk and Singlìhng! Anytime she would ask a question or say something that I didn't really understand, I would whisper to myself "I have no idea what she's saying" without realizing I was saying it outloud and she would laugh hahaha so I knew she spoke english which was a little comforting but we're encouraged to speak in cantonese the whole time!

I would not be as good as I am at cantonese without my mom! Seriously she is the best companion! Yesterday I went to lunch with her and "the ladies" haha and we go through flashcards like nobody's business! Oh my gosh so remember how she started her prayer for my class in cantonese that one time? okay yeah so she joined for the first little bit of my afternoon class and Yau Jimuih asked me how to say a word in gwóng dūng wá, and I didn't remember and my mom was like oh I do! And she said it right and my teacher was like WHAT HAHAHA it was so funny

A couple weeks ago my parents and I took a last minute trip to Rexburg to be with my sister Jenna and her little family! So good to see her and Garett and my girl Hazel haha she's so cute and growing everyday! I also got to stop and see some of my old roomies! Shoutout Jas and Lauren haha love them

My mom and I painted a bathroom together for a family in our ward this week... you know just missionary companion things... We also went to a Chinese market looking for those salty eggs that my teacher was telling me about and some durian. Durian is a fruit they love in Hong Kong but I guess it's known for smelling really bad but tasting okay haha we couldn't find it so I'll find out in Hong Kong! I got to meet (over zoom) a member family in HK! I talked to the mom and she told me she would feed me good and then she gave the phone to her Mom and she also told me she would feed me a lot and then when I was talking to the little five year old boy, HE told me he would feed me too haha they seem super nice and I can't wait to see and serve them!

When my Mom and I went shopping at the mall in Idaho Falls, we passed this group of maybe 15-16 year olds and they were like "OMG theres a missionary, look right there" and one of the girls just came up and took a selfie with me hahah so random, I think they were on a scavenger hunt or something... maybe? I have no idea but I felt so cool like yeah... I'm a missionary, it's whatevs

We're bunny sitting this week for my sister, and our cats are very curious of them... we put them in this structure thing that my brother in law made and had to put different things around it so the kitties can't take a swipe at them haha and the bunnies totally mock them it's so funny. Did I mention both our cats are like so pregnant? I think one of them is going to pop this week or next because she's HUGE sheesh but I think the other one still has a good 3-4 weeks left so fun

My farewell is April 25th! message me for more details if you want to come say goodbye! That's the last time I'm leaving my house until I leave for Hong Kong May 11th! (I have to quarantine before leaving the country)

At the beginning of my HMTC, because it is a little different from others, I found myself wondering "why?" about a lot of different things... "Why do I have to serve a mission in the middle of a pandemic? Why does my MTC have to be at home? Why am I the only person in my district? Why did I get called to speak such a difficult language?" And doubting my adequacy as a disciple of Christ, thinking "can I seriously do this?" I have had long prayers asking Him and trying to understand these "why's". I think of the scripture in 1nephi, chapter 3 verse 7 that's saying how if you are commanded by God to do something, then He shall prepare a way for you to do it. God prepares a way for us to obey Him. I dont think that any commandment is too great or too little to obey. I realized that it is okay that I didn't know the answer to some of my "why" questions right now, and I might not ever know. But I choose to willingly obey what God has commanded me by serving in this mission at this time in the world and of my life and TRUST that He will be with me every step of the way. I have already seen God's hand in preparing a way for me to not only do what He has commanded, but to thrive in this calling. I'm grateful for the knowledge of these things and for the opportunity it has given me to come closer to Christ and develop a stronger relationship with my Heavenly Father.

I love you all and hope you're doing great!!
