Dear Brother and Sister Clanton:

It is with great pleasure that I write to inform you that your daughter, Sister Lacey Belle Clanton, has just been assigned to be a Trainer and Senior Companion.

I want you to know how much Sister Chan and I love and admire your daughter and I know that Heavenly Father loves her as well. Sister Clanton is an exemplary missionary in every way. As a Trainer, Sister Clanton will now be responsible to help orient and train new companion in all aspects of missionary work, as taught in Preach My Gospel.

Being a Trainer is a special responsibility. A Trainer has more potential for influencing the new missionary and the Mission, than any other assignment a seasoned missionary can be given. On page 48 of the Mission President’s Handbook it states.

“One of the greatest expressions of trust that you can give a missionary is to assign him or her as a trainer of a new missionary. A missionaries first companion will have a profound, lasting influence on the development of the missionary’s attitudes and habits. Give special consideration, therefore, to those you assign to train new missionaries. Choose only understanding missionaries to serve as trainers.”

In addition to their own basic missionary responsibilities, senior companions are involved in helping their companions in the following areas:

Gospel study, Language study, Missionary skills such as finding and teaching, Daily and weekly planning sessions, Overall well-being and success as a missionary.

Sister Clanton meets those qualifications and I have great confidence in her.

As the Mission President, I am so grateful that you raised such a faithful daughter. She is an important part of our Mission and is working hard to fulfill her special calling as a full-time representative of the Savior Jesus Christ. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and your family in all that you do.

Sincerely,

Hok On Angus Chan, President

China Hong Kong Mission
